Blog Post: One Bin at a Time, One Cat at a Time

The studio has officially entered its “one bin at a time” era. I’ve been slowly reclaiming my bedroom‑studio by keeping only what I’m actively working on within arm’s reach. It’s a noble plan, but of course the cats have interpreted this as an invitation to inspect every bin, every project, and every surface I attempt to organize. Productivity remains a group activity whether I like it or not.
This week’s standout moment: running out of paint in one single paint marker and responding with complete emotional maturity by ordering forty‑eight replacements. Because if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that preparedness sometimes looks like bulk panic‑buying.
Having my bed next to my workstation continues to be a dangerous lifestyle choice. It’s far too easy to “take a quick break” and wake up later with a cat on my chest and a half‑finished piece stuck to my elbow. Occupational hazard.
Meanwhile, CatCon prep is… on schedule‑ish. I’ve estimated I’ll produce around 400 pieces of artwork for the event — everything from small wall art to pouches, bookmarks, and magnets. And that’s not even counting whatever Susan brings, which is always a surprise and usually something that makes me question the laws of physics.
We even did a mock setup of the 10×10 booth. After rearranging things more times than I’d like to admit, we think we’ve landed on a floor plan that won’t cause a traffic jam or a meltdown. Progress, in its own chaotic way.
The cats have been relatively calm this week, which is suspicious. They’ve inspected every project, of course, but only one runaway incident — GG, who had a brief unauthorized outing before returning home like nothing happened. Classic GG.
Frames took a backseat this week. I finally tackled the frame hoard and organized everything, which means no new thrift finds, no new treasures, and no new “I swear this frame followed me home.” A rare moment of restraint.
For this week’s Wikkikitty entry: Cats possess an ancient instinct known as Chrono‑Selective Productivity — the ability to sense the exact moment you become focused and immediately interrupt you. Whether it’s stepping on your keyboard, knocking over a marker, or sitting directly on the thing you’re photographing, cats have perfected the art of disrupting time itself. Scientists remain baffled. Cats remain proud.
I’ve paused creating new pieces for the website so I can focus entirely on CatCon inventory, but I do have a few new originals heading to market. I’ll share those below once they’re uploaded.
Closing Thoughts: Every week feels like a strange blend of progress, chaos, and cats supervising my life choices. But even with the bins, the booth planning, the runaway GG incident, and the existential crisis of ordering 48 paint markers, things are moving forward. CatCon is getting closer, the studio is getting sharper, and the art pile is growing in all the right ways.
One bin at a time. One project at a time. One cat interruption at a time.
We’re getting there — and it’s starting to look pretty damn good.
Meow for now,
Jeffrey
