Before the Next Painting (I’m Just Watching Cats)
Share
Before every new painting, there’s a phase where I don’t make anything at all.
I just watch.
Cats returning to the same chair like it’s reserved. Two of them sharing a space with an unspoken agreement not to acknowledge each other. Expressions that feel calm, curious, and slightly unimpressed — all at once.
This is usually the part where I remind myself not to rush. When I try to force an idea too early, it shows. When I let these small moments repeat themselves long enough, the painting tends to arrive on its own.
Right now, I’m not choosing colors or planning compositions. I’m just noticing what keeps showing up.
That’s usually where the work begins.
Meow for now
